With reference to the letter from this Department
of the 15th instant, I am directed by Secretary Sir E.Grey
to transmit to you herewith, to be laid before the
Secretary of State for the Colonies a copy of a further
despatch from His Majesty's Ambassador at Washington on
the subject of the deportation of Chinese from the United
States of America to Hong Kong.
Sir E. Grey will be glad to learn whether Mr.
Secretary Harcourt regards as satisfactory the proposals
now made by the United States Government.
